Pedro Alderete

Pedro Alderete, was born in Cuba and developed his professional career as an artist in Toronto. His artistic process, and more importantly his life, ended suddenly on October 17, 2005, while finishing the largest commission of his career at Downsview Park. The subjects that Pedro explored through his chosen media were inspired from the place he left – Cuba, and his immediate surroundings. He used a variety of sources, symbols and imagery from letters and interviews of people, ads on Cuban tourism, military photos and found materials. His work also intertwined with the culture of Yoruba. Aesthetics of beauty was not at all his concern – neither was commercialism. However, he valued life and explored it to its fullest.
